If you can't watch Y&R what do you watch? - The Young and the Restless
So I’ve had moments lately where I just can’t watch the repetitive storyline about title swapping. So I’ve been on a break on and off and just reading recaps. So my question is what shows do you watch or recommend when you can’t get into Y&R storylines? I don’t watch a lot of TV but I miss having at least one show to watch.
My pick: I started watching Virgin River this week.

CarolLK September 5, 2023, 7:19pm 2The only reason I can’t watch Y&R is if it isn’t on. Last night I watched “Van der Valk” that I recorded on PBS on Sunday.
Tunifer September 5, 2023, 7:22pm 3I tape and watch things from Rewind TV like Becker, Dear John, The John Laroquette Show or I read. I always have a backlog of things I have recorded for days or night when nothing worth watching is on.

When I take a break from soaps I put the television on HGTV or turn it off.

I have backlog of series I want to finish.
Up first is Slow Horses and then The Leftovers.

Soaps are the only fictional programs I watch. Otherwise, I read or watch Youtube episodes about my interests.

CRau September 5, 2023, 8:58pm 11I’ve been watching Everwood on Amazon Prime.
I haven’t been recording or watching the show. I’ve been watching other shows that I have recorded or tuning into old shows on my CTV app. Shows like Bewitched.
I’m also watching the last season of Jack Ryan on Prime Video. Having a difficult time getting into it though.
And my old standby movies, the Lord of the Rings extended versions.
I wasn’t finding The Young and the Restless entertaining anymore and I found it more aggravating than anything. I decided there’s lots of other stuff available to watch that will entertain me and give me viewing pleasure.

Lately I’ve been watching old, old reruns of Rumpole of the Bailey on Prime. They are old enough now (set in the seventies) that it’s like watching a period piece.

I read a lot. That and my kids are the reason I only really have time to watch one show at a time. My free time is mostly spoken for through the weekdays. Right now a good book sounds better then what I’ve been seeing on Y&R lately. I’m hoping things get better soon.
GiGi44 September 6, 2023, 4:38pm 17Food network and streaming things like Only Murders in the Building, and the Star Wars sagas like Andor and Ahsoka and of course Mandolorian. We like documentaries too. I rarely watch Y and R. I do really enjoy this “book club” I think as Zina so rightly described it. I entertain everyone’s opinions even those I disagree with.

I like to have the TV on during the day when I am putsying around the house.
What I have on: TNT - Supernatural reruns (love my boys)
I love shows about archeology, which is one reason I watch Ancient Aliens to see the ruins of older civilizations. I like the shows about ancient Egypt and the middle east digs, especially when they connect them to the old bible stories. It’s fascinating.
I like House Hunters and the remodeling shows, although they can get repetitious as well. I like to get ideas from those shows.
There is a cool show on the science channel called How It’s Made, which shows you how they make things from candy to vacuum cleaners to oddball stuff you never think about.
If all else fails - Turner Classic Movies. Love some Hitchcock, or detective shows from the 30’s and 40’s (they are so funny and it’s nostalgic to see the old telephones, typewriters, clothing, etc.)
I also read constantly - my newest find is a series by Jen Westergren? about a medieval detective named Crispen Guest.

I like House Hunters
Me too and Beachfront bargain Hunt and Island life. I get to see places I have never been and I enjoy guessing which one they will pick. I also get to see some of the dynamics between the couples which is always interesting. Who is in charge and so on…
