Theresa Returns and Who's Dick Van Dyke's Character's Son?

After Belle leaves the Pub, John sits with Brady. Ranting about Philip, he asks if Brady’s sure he doesn’t want to press charges. Part of him does, but Brady wants to honor Victor’s memory somehow. John recalls how he and Victor looked out for each other after Isabella died and even became friends. Brady notes how crazy that is, considering they were once mortal enemies. John confirms they were from the moment Victor brought him there from Miami to be used as a pawn. He was suffering from memory loss and didn’t know who the hell he was.

Jada finds Kayla at the hospital. There’s a confused man (played by Dick Van Dyke) who was found on the outskirts of town with scrapes and bruises. She asks her to take a look at him. Kayla approaches a white-haired man with a short, fluffy beard in a wheelchair. She asks his name. He chuckles. “I was hoping you could tell me!” He’s flirtatious with another police officer (played by Dick Van Dyke’s wife) and quippy with Kayla, who admits him as John Doe.

Marlena meets with Shawn in her office. He’s grateful she put him on the 24 hour hold. It’s like he was a completely different person yesterday. When he expresses embarrassment, Marlena assures him there’s no need to feel that way. He did the right thing by asking for help. Shawn knows he’s not cured, but he would like to go home now. He promises to stick with therapy this time. Marlena agrees to lift the hold, but urges him to seek help if he feels that way again.

In a hospital room, Kayla questions John Doe, who has to get out of there because he’s on an important mission. Kayla brings Marlena in to talk with him. As she questions him, Marlena learns John Doe had been walking a couple of days to find his son. He’s been looking for him for years, but he doesn’t know his name. He’s never even met him. But he had a dream that told him he was in this area. When she asks about his home, he remembers a farm, but he doesn’t think he was a farmer. For all he knows, he could have been a chimney sweep or a street artist. He has to find his son if it’s the last thing he does.

Shawn runs into Jada in the hospital lobby. He assures her he thinks reinstating Rafe as commissioner is the right decision. He knows he acted horribly, but he wonders how she would she feel about being partners again. She thinks it’d be great. As for Rafe, he’s thinking of turning down the job.

Abe frowns across the table from Steve in the Square.

In the Square, Steve meets Abe, who tells him his date with Paulina was a disaster. He learned how she wanted to bulldoze the Square and destroy his reputation in the process. Steve reminds him they got past it. Abe points out he doesn’t remember that, and he’s sick of being lied to. He would rather be alone than be lied to again. When Steve pleads Paulina’s case, Abe wonders why he’d want to fall in love again. Because, Steve responds, the man who fell in love with her before wasn’t a self-righteous prig!

Above the Pub, Rafe opens Jada’s room door to Paulina. She won’t leave until he agrees to return as police commissioner. She informs him she filed an appeal with the city council to amend their policy about supervisors dating subordinates. They will vote on it, but she doesn’t know when. Until it happens, Rafe won’t go back to the job. Paulina counters he could just stop seeing Jada.

Rafe knows the council could take their time with the policy reversal, and he doesn’t want to be separated from Jada for even a day. Paulina understands what that’s like. She bemoans her date with Abe, which she muses was a swan song to their marriage. Rafe asks if there’s anything he can do to help — aside from returning as commissioner. She asks him to help her figure out who to hire then. Jada enters. “How about her?” Rafe offers.

Belle meets Shawn at the hospital and learns he’s been released from the hold. He doesn’t think he’s an alcoholic, but he knows he’s been drinking too much. So, maybe he should go to a meeting with Brady. Belle thinks it’s a good idea. Shawn knows he owes Brady an apology first. Speaking of, he made amends with Jada, who agreed to partner with him when he goes back to work. Belle doesn’t think that’s a good idea. He assures her he can handle it. She reluctantly backs down.

When Brady snidely brings up Chloe and Xander’s engagement at the Pub, he says he doesn’t have time for romance right now anyway. He needs to focus on Rachel. John urges him not to give up on love. He’s sure there’s a woman out there for him.

Jada appears to be considering her thoughts in front of Paulina and Rafe.

In Jada’s room, Rafe makes the case for hiring Jada. Paulina won’t find anyone better. Jada points out that if she’s his boss, Rafe still can’t come back to the force while they’re dating. She won’t let him throw away his career. Paulina gets a message from the city council, who has amended their policy. There’s nothing stopping Rafe from coming back. Rafe still supports Jada as commissioner. Jada protests. Paulina interrupts them to announce she’s made a decision.

In the Square, Steve apologizes for calling Abe a prig, but he’s frustrated Abe can’t remember how happy he was. Abe admits he’s scared. He doesn’t remember her, but Paulina still gets to him. Steve knows that love is scary.

Dick Van Dyke on Days

At the hospital, Marlena tells John Doe she will help him put the pieces of his life together. In fact, she’ll get her private investigator husband on the case. John Doe thinks it was meant to be that he was brought there. This could be the beginning of a real friendship. Marlena thinks he may be right.

In the commissioner’s office, Rafe places his nameplate on the desk. Jada thinks Paulina made a wise decision, but appreciates what Rafe said about her. Jada recalls him telling her he was falling in love with her. She’s falling in love with him too.

In the hospital lobby, Belle tells Shawn he’s taking the day off work and coming home with her. She looks forward to them settling into a normal routine. He says that sounds great. However, when she goes to check on his discharge paperwork, he looks off worriedly.

Paulina finds Abe talking to Tom and Alice’s plaque. He’s so glad their Square wasn’t torn down because they seem like nice people. “Unlike me, right,” she says. He asks if they can start over again. She’d like that.

Marlena joins Steve and John having a beer at the Pub. They tell her they just wrapped up their latest case. Marlena says she has a new one for them that they’ll find very interesting.

At home, Brady looks at Rachel’s photo when there’s a knock at the door. He opens it to Theresa. “Hey, Brady,” she says. “It’s been a while.”
