Torres is in serious hot water. The Intelligence Unit rookie returned to Chicago P.D. following a brief hiatus and has already gotten himself into a sticky situation by falling for a drug boss’ wife. So, who is Gloria Perez and what is there to know about her? Will their new romance put Torres’ career… or worse, his life, at risk? We have all the details below.

Chicago P.D. is NBC’s police procedural that follows the personal and professional lives of officers and detectives at the fictional 21st District of the Chicago Police Department. Created by Dick Wolf, the series first premiered in 2014 and exists within the One Chicago franchise, which includes Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and the now-canceled Chicago Justice.

Dante Torres was first introduced during Season 9. Played by Benjamin Lee Aguilar, Torres is a former gang member who turned his life around and joined the CPD Intelligence Unit after he was taken under Jay Halstead’s (Jesse Lee Soffer) wing. Torres was noticeably missing during the action-packed Season 10 finale, with members of the squad explaining that he left town to take care of his mom, who was being treated at the Mayo Clinic. When Season 11 rolled around months later, Torres was still missing and didn’t appear in the first three episodes. “[Torres has] actually been going through it back at home and trying to help his mom and make sure that she’s healthy and sort of has been off the job for a bit,” showrunner Gwen Sigan explained to NBC Insider of the character’s absence.

Thankfully, Torres returned during Episode 4 and immediately got right back into action. After volunteering to go undercover to investigate a drug trafficking ring, he meets Gloria Perez (played by Yara Martinez), whom he has an instant connection with. From there, things get messy — fast. So, without further ado, here’s everything you need to know about Gloria Perez.

Who is Gloria Perez on Chicago P.D.? Gloria Perez is the wife of Rafael Perez, the head of operations of a major drug trafficking organization. She first meets Torres when he goes undercover as a drug runner during the Season 11 episode “Escape.” Torres quickly learns that Gloria has been skimming money from Rafael and desperately wants to escape the gang life. He also learns that Rafael physically abuses Gloria, which strikes an emotional cord as Torres’ own mom was stuck in an abusive relationship with his father. After revealing his true identity to her, Torres makes her an informant for the Intelligence Unit and offers to help get her out.

“I didn’t know you were a cop, and I’m really good at reading people… you’re not like them,” Gloria told Torres at one point in the episode. “You seem like something different.”

Things go awry during an attempted raid and in the heat of the moment, Torres and Gloria share a passionate kiss. Although Torres is well aware of how wrong it is to get involved with an informant and the wife of the squad’s main villain, no less, Aguilar explained to TV Insider that there is an “attraction” between them that Torres can’t ignore. The actor went on to say that Torres and Gloria’s similar backgrounds adds to their connection. “There’s this just push and pull between them because honestly, they’ve been in the same situation. She’s trying to get out of this world, and she can understand when people are like her. It’s like once you’re in that world, you’re in, and something else is pulling her. And he lived through that before he became a cop,” he said. “So I think that that mutual understanding that lives within them is really what’s bringing them together.”

Yara Martinez portrays Gloria and has previously starred on True Detective, Jane the Virgin and Bull. While it is unclear how many episodes she will appear in, Aguilar said that he has a “feeling” we will be seeing more of her. “I can’t wait for the writers to send me the next script of that storyline, but I would assume that something is going to go down and that he’s going to find himself again in some sort of …” Aguilar said.

The show will check back in with Torres and Gloria in the upcoming episode “Somos Uno.” In a promo for the episode, it appears that the cop has dug himself in even deeper and is now sleeping with Gloria. “You’re putting yourself in danger,” Officer Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) tells him. “You don’t just lose your job, you go to prison.” The words “Which life will he choose?” then flash across the screen, along with steamy clips of him and Gloria kissing.
