Y&R Getting A New Executive Producer and Head Writer Soon - The Young and the Restless
With the removal of Steve Kent as Senior Executive Vice President of Programming at Sony Pictures Television, the word is that Y&R will be getting a new Executive Producer and Head Writer very soon. Josh Griffith, who was/is a close friend of Kent, will also be fired.
The word is Shelley Curtis is being courted as the new Executive Producer. No word yet on who they are trying to court as the next Head Writer, but there may be an interim team who handles the writing duties until a new Head Writer is named.
I say this is good news! The show is in dire need of new creative energy, and Josh Griffith has failed at delivering the goods for the past 5 years!

I hope it’s good news. I don’t know anything about Shelly Curtis but when I google her she’s worked with GH, Days, and some other soaps but not Y&R. So she doesn’t know it’s history.
I’m all for new blood if she infuses new energy into the show, and JG is awful, so almost anyone else is better. But I sure hope she’s not like JFP, and is concentrated on bringing in actors from GH and Days, like JFP did.
Many of us who watch Y&R want to watch OUR vet characters, and go down OUR memory lane. I don’t have any interest in going down Shelley Curtis’s personal memory lane, or any other persons, from any other soap. I think Y&R should be written for it’s viewers satisfaction, not for the satisfaction of the showrunner.

And people won’t be any happier with the next writer than they were with Josh Griffith or Mal Young, or the writer before him.

I wish this was the case for B&B. That show desperately needs new producers and writers.

I was happy with Sally Sussman. She was just taking a while to get going and set the stage…but Bill Bell did the same thing. From later interviews we learned many of her stories were turned down by Steve Kent. She wanted a law enforcement story where Devon was hot unfairly, and some others.
Chuck Pratt was OK except with Sharon ( but not as bad as MAB was to Sharon, and JG ignores Sharon)

I agree with you. But I have my doubts that we will be so lucky.

SoPea April 23, 2024, 8:03pm 11Well maybe a new writer can clear up some confusion and resolve some storylines ? I think that could be a good start. I know each writer has a different style.
I would like to have a faster pace in the storylines and maybe a better use of the talented ensemble cast.
I’m sure they can’t please everyone, but maybe just creating a balance would be a positive start?

The number one topic of discussion on this board is complaints about the writing. That has been true since I’ve been here and I don’t expect it to change.

I’ll bet the slew of breakdown writers he fired are breaking out the Champagne!
At BB, Brad Bell owns the show and he’s the head writer. I don’t think you’ll see any change there.

I thought it was great news when MAB was fired, but I was wrong.
